burnbay — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 23 May 2026 · Version 1.0

Short version: burnbay does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal information to any server we operate. Everything you enter — your food log, weight, height, name, email, goals — stays on your phone. The only outside data flow is that Google AdMob serves ads in the free tier and collects the technical data needed to do so under Google's own privacy policy. If you don't want ads (or AdMob's data collection), subscribe to burnbay+ or decline ad-tracking in your device settings.

1. Who this policy is from

This privacy policy ("Policy") explains how the burnbay mobile application ("burnbay" or "the app") handles information. The app is published by HelioLink Technologies ("we," "us," "our"). You can reach us at contact@heliolink.net.

This Policy applies only to the burnbay app. It does not apply to any other product, website, or service.

2. What we collect

We do not collect personal information from you in connection with burnbay. We do not operate any backend server, database, or analytics pipeline that stores information about you. Specifically:

If you contact us by email, we receive whatever you send us (your email address and the contents of your message). We use it only to respond to you and delete the conversation when it is no longer needed.

3. What other parties collect when you use burnbay

Three categories of third-party services may collect information when you use the app. We do not control what they collect, do not receive the data themselves, and do not sell or share data with them on your behalf. Each is governed by its own privacy policy.

3.1 Google AdMob (advertising)

The free tier of burnbay displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob is a Google product and collects technical information from your device (device model, operating system, language, IP-derived approximate location, advertising identifier where permitted) in order to choose ads to show you and to measure ad performance. None of this data is shared with us in identifiable form. See Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy and AdMob's data disclosures at support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543.

You can limit AdMob's data collection by:

3.2 Apple App Store and Google Play (distribution and subscriptions)

If you subscribe to burnbay+, your payment is processed by Apple or Google. We receive only an anonymous receipt confirming that you have an active subscription; we never see your name, payment card, or billing address. App-store usage statistics that Apple or Google show us in their developer consoles are aggregated and de-identified.

See apple.com/legal/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.

3.3 Open Food Facts (barcode lookups)

When you scan a product barcode, burnbay sends the barcode value (and only the barcode value) to the Open Food Facts public API to retrieve nutrition information. A barcode is not personal information. See world.openfoodfacts.org/legal.

4. What permissions burnbay requests

Each device permission is independently controllable in your operating system settings. Declining any of them limits the corresponding feature but does not break the rest of the app.

5. Children

burnbay is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 (or from children under 13 within the meaning of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, "COPPA"). If you believe a person under 18 has used burnbay, please contact us at contact@heliolink.net and we will take appropriate action.

6. Your rights and choices

Because we do not collect or store personal information about you, most "right to access," "right to delete," and similar rights resolve in the simplest possible way: uninstalling the app erases all your data from your device. There is nothing on our side to access, correct, port, or delete.

If you are a resident of California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, or any other jurisdiction with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, the rights granted to you by that law still apply. To exercise them, or to confirm in writing that we do not hold information about you, email contact@heliolink.net. We respond within the time frames required by applicable law (generally 30 to 45 days).

For matters that concern data collected by AdMob, Apple, or Google — including "right to opt out of sale or sharing" under California law and similar rights elsewhere — you must contact those providers directly using the privacy policy links in Section 3. We cannot delete, modify, or transfer data we do not hold.

7. Data we receive only if you affirmatively send it

One narrow case in which we may temporarily receive information from you:

8. Security

Because the bulk of your information lives only on your device, the security of your phone is the single biggest factor in protecting that information. Use a lock screen, keep your operating system updated, and consider enabling full-disk encryption.

For the limited information we may receive (Section 7), we use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No method of electronic communication is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

No warranty regarding third parties. HelioLink Technologies does not control, audit, or guarantee the privacy or security practices of any third-party service that may collect information when you use burnbay, including Google AdMob, Apple, Google Play, the Open Food Facts project, or any other service named in this Policy. You should review their privacy policies, linked above, before deciding to use the app. Use of burnbay in connection with any third-party service is at your own risk.

9. International users

HelioLink Technologies is based in the United States. The Open Food Facts API is operated by a non-profit based in France. Apple and Google operate globally. Because we do not collect personal information ourselves, no cross-border transfer of your data by us takes place. Cross-border data flows associated with the third-party services are governed by those services' own privacy policies and legal safeguards (for example, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses).

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make changes that materially affect your rights or the categories of information we collect, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where reasonable, notify you in the app. If we ever begin to operate a backend service that collects, stores, or transmits personal information about you, we will materially update this Policy and request appropriate consent before any new collection begins.

Your continued use of burnbay after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
